I deliver essentials to people in my community. I like being my own boss. I am a mother of three and the covid-19 left me unemployed. Driving for DoorDash and Instacart helps with my income severely. I need to work for DoorDash and Iinstacart to make money just for rent. I'm not sure what I would do with my employment with DoorDash and Instacart.
I believe my job is important to help keep people stay at home and stay safe. There is a lot of elderly people who depend on us to deliver food and groceries and families with several children who need to stay home to keep the family safe.
I am a busy full-time college student looking to be a nurse in the future. Finding a job for me is very hard since I have little time on my hands to make money through working. However, DoorDash has tremendously helped my lifestyle and has supported me for months!
Having the flexibility to work as a gig food delivery driver makes it possible to care for my elderly mom and to take her to all her appointments and help my sons financially since they were both furloughed due to coronavirus. Without the flexibility of the gig economy, I would struggle even more to care for my family. I love being an Independent Contractor and choose this over being an employee. I do not want to be my own boss to be taken away from me by the government!
I am a father of three, I need the flexibility of being an independent contractor to be able to drop and pick them up from school, meet with teachers and just enjoy life with my family. The flexibility is a blessing, without that I don't know if I would be able to do the regular day to day things my family and I need.
I was working two jobs 6 days a week and my income wasn't enough to cover kids’ school, rent, food, and other expenses. I was so stressed. Then I start driving and find out that with fewer hours of work, I could make enough money to cover all my expenses and my health got better without stress. Now I'm my own boss, I decide how many hours of work every day, but less than the 15 hours I worked for more than 13 years. I'm not young anymore and this work gives me the opportunity to get what I need.

I took a leave of absence from my job to care for my mother who was in hospice over 2 years ago. When she passed, I attempted to return to my career/work, but I was relieved of my position. While on my leave of absence, the organization went through a restructuring and my position was eliminated. I thought to myself, I'd be back to work in no time, however, 18 months later I find myself still going on interviews. My unemployment has run out and driving for Lyft for the last 8 months has helped pay my bills. Flexibility is so important to me since I am still going to interviews. The flexibility to drive when I am available allows me to continue my job search and attend the scheduled interviews I sometimes do not have the opportunity to schedule but are scheduled for me. Another reason flexibility is important to me is, more recently, my car was in the shop for two weeks. Flexibility allows me to drive and make up hours/money I missed out due to unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, I can help my family members during their time of need and choose my own driving time around important family events. Seeing my mom in her last days and seeing her take her last breath, was a profound reminder that time is irreplaceable. As a Lyft driver, the flexibility to choose how you spend your time is so valuable.
